Our Purpose

de Purpose
Altrusa International, Inc. of Downtown Dallas is a service club for professionals in executive, supervisory and decision-making positions. Its purpose is to contribute to the solution of community problems and to help meet community needs while making lasting friendships. Every year grant requests from non-profit organizations are reviewed and projects are selected. Members donate their time and money raised from the annual poinsettia sale. First and foremost, Altrusa is a builder of women.

Meetings
Altrusa International, Inc. of Downtown Dallas meets on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at noon at the City Club in the Bank of America Plaza building, 901 Main Street. The Club conducts business at the first meeting of the month, and a program is presented at the second meeting of the month.

Serving The Comunity

Some of the organizations supported by Altrusa International Inc. of Downtown Dallas include
Attitudes & Attire - An agency that works with women returning to the workplace. Jonathan's Place - A shelter for young children removed from their homes by Child Protective Services. Buckner Children and Family Services - An agency that works to strengthen individuals and families. Genesis Women's Shelter - A shelter for abused women. Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center - An organization that works to break the cycle of child abuse through collaborative intervention in a child-sensitive environment Dallas Arboretum - A show place of natural beauty. StoryLine - A pre-recorded telephone story line that promotes reading by children.

By The Numbers
Altrusa is an international service organization founded in 1917 and thriving today in countries around the world. With 407 clubs worldwide and a membership of over 11,500 members worldwide Altrusa is having a large impact in communities everywhere. Altrusa International of Downtown Dallas is a club of 65 members who raise about $33,000 annually through our primary fundraiser, the sale of Poinsettias. 2004 marks the 17th year of poinsettia sales as our only funding source. 100% of these funds are then distributed to community organizations in combination with approximately 2000 man hours of volunteer time.
